History

Sportsbrand has a strong heritage in sports and event television production and a reputation built on consistency, reliability and dedication in programming and service.

The company was founded in 1991 by Melbourne businessman, philanthropist and sports lover Jeff Chapman.

Initially packaging sports programming for the local and global television market, the company moved into live television production in 1995 when it was appointed production partner for the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. Every year since, Sportsbrand’s cutting edge approach has helped the tournament grow to the point where it has been named the ATP and WTA tour event of the year. Since 2010 the tournament has been shot in full high-definition.

In 2005, when Dubai Duty Free wanted to generate more international publicity for the tournament Sportsbrand took the two biggest names in tennis and simulated a match 700 feet above sea level. The images of Andre Agassi and Roger Federer hitting out on top of the Burj Al Arab received an unprecedented level of global exposure.

Over the years Sportsbrand has developed partnerships with many of the world’s elite sporting bodies, including the International Cricket Council (ICC), the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and the International Hockey Federation (FEH).

FIBA World Basketball, FIM Moto Show and ICC Cricket World are the official weekly programs of their sport’s respective ruling bodies. And programs on other sports, including football, Olympic Games, motor racing, horse racing, tennis, golf, badminton, hockey and rugby union have been successfully produced, providing global exposure for the sports and sponsors through the Sportsbrand distribution arm.

In recent years, the company has expanded its experience in international broadcast events, producing live programming across multiple countries for clients including the ATP and WTA, the International Rugby Board, the Australian Football League, Planet X Bahrain, National Basketball League, LG ICC Awards, UAE Airshow, Rugby Sevens, F200 Powerboats and International Raceway.

In 2010 we moved into the production of daily television programming through the Football Daily Bite, a five minute news show built around the World Cup, and Racing World’s Daily Bite, an award winning five minute program showcasing the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.

In 2011, Sportsbrand announced the addition of five new programs, including Countdown To London, the only Olympic magazine show produced in full high definition. As the company celebrated 20 years as an industry leader, it expanded its main production hub in Melbourne, installed a full crew in London for the build-up to the 2012 Olympic Games and set its sights on productions geared around the Rugby World Cup, football and cricket World Cups and other major sporting events.
